Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association


The Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (PBIDA) seeks a skilled Executive Director to build on our success to-date and lead the organization into its next stage of growth and development.



PBIDA champions individuals with dyslexia and all students learning to read. We support their families, communities, educators and related professionals. Throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware, we increase awareness about dyslexia, provide education and resources, and promote best practices for teaching reading based on scientific research.

The Executive Director acts under the immediate direction of the Board President and is responsible to the Board. He/she will serve as the ambassador for PBIDA and will develop and implement the organization’s strategic direction and work with Board members and volunteers to align new strategies with all aspects of the organization’s program, membership, development, fundraising, and administrative activities.


Strategic Management
• Support the Board of Directors in completing and implementing the strategic planning process begun in 2016.
• Implement the organization’s mission, goals, values and objectives.
• Work with the Board and all other stakeholders to execute and implement the strategic plan.
• Strategically develop PBIDA programs and services throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware
• Work with the Board of Directors to identify issues and needs for the Board’s consideration.

Resource Development
• Identify, establish and maintain relationships with literacy stakeholders statewide and nationally.
• Lead the implementation of PBIDA’s development and fundraising strategy: meet with donors;
cultivate new donor relationships and donor stewardship; identify appropriate funding   opportunities and play a key role in grant writing.

• In conjunction with the Finance Committee, manage all fiscal oversight and on-going financial matters including creating the annual operating and program budget, monitoring revenue and expenditures, and financial reporting.
• Manage administrative and human resource-related functions required to maintain day-to-day operations.
• Manage day-to-day office communication with Board members, PBIDA members, the public and other stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel across Pennsylvania and Delaware to coordinate programming and events and act as a PBIDA representative at state and national meetings.

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) and experience and training commensurate with the required skill set.
• Experience with development and fundraising preferred
• Experience in organizational and project management.
• Experience in budgeting and fiscal management.

• Ability to provide leadership, vision and inspiration.
• Ability to analyze issues and resolve problems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Ability to work with the accountant and auditor to ensure fiduciary responsibilities.
• Capacity and experience identifying goals and mapping out the appropriate steps
to achieve success.
• Highly organized and comfortable balancing many concurrent tasks.
• Ability to identify mission driven priorities.
• Development and fundraising knowledge.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Background knowledge of education and school systems.
• Willingness to become familiar with the benefits of a structured literacy program for students with reading challenges.
• Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks, and donor tracking software.
• Willingness to develop skills and participate in trainings that will support PBIDA’s outreach with membership and the public.
• Ability to maintain and update the website and other social media.
• Basic graphic design skills for development of flyers and other advertisements.

 Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
• Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
• Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
• Works in a sometimes stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges,deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.

This is a full-time position with flexible hours and opportunities to work remotely. The FLSA Classification is Exempt from overtime.
