Dyslexia
is the most common learning difference affecting children
in our schools. Students with dyslexia struggle to read,
to write, to succeed. Parents who want to help their
children be successful at school and at home turn to
the International Dyslexia Association for current information
and resources. Helping
parents become well-informed advocates for the needs
of individuals with dyslexia and learning differences
The Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association
(PBIDA) offers support and information to parents throughout
Pennsylvania and Delaware. The branch provides referrals
on local tutors, diagnosticians, advocates, and schools
and provides support for parents and adults. The branch
newsletter, Focus, and the PBIDA.org website keep parents
and educators informed about the most current news, programs,
and information on the issues of dyslexia. Equipping educators with research-based information
on the most effective ways to teach students with dyslexia
Educators
now have solid, research-based information on the most effective
teaching approaches for students with
dyslexia. The PBIDA is committed to sharing current research
and classroom practice with area educators. Each year the
branch hosts a full day conference with workshops on reading
and language research, assessment and instruction practices,
neuroscience and brain research, and other key issues of
interest to educators. The
PBIDA also co-sponsors continuing education programs
with local and national teacher training institutes
and supports continuing education for educators by
providing financial aid scholarships for the annual
fall conference and teacher training workshops.
